What is Truth Social? TRUTH Social is former President Donald Trump’s new social media platform that is being positioned as an alternative to Twitter and Facebook.
Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) is said to be the company behind TRUTH Social.
After he was banned from all the major social media platforms for violating their terms of service, Trump filed for a preliminary injunction against Twitter.
He asked the federal judge in the District Court in Miami to force Twitter to temporarily reinstate his account so that he could start tweeting immediately before the final judgment in court.
However, it seems this did not yield any good result for Trump. Therefore, he decided to launch his own social media platform.
Yesterday, Trump announced plans to launch the new social media platform. TRUTH Social will reportedly publicly launch in 2022.
Trump may have said that he created the new platform “to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech,” but the whole world knows that he is seriously in need of an avenue to tweet as he used to do on Twitter. This can be seen in his statement which says:
“We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced.”
Although Trump announced that TRUTH Social was created to “give a voice to all,” the fact is according to its terms of service, Trump’s new social media platform won’t let users criticize neither Trump nor the site.
The site’s terms of service categorically say users may not “disparage, tarnish, or otherwise harm, in our opinion, us and/or the Site.”
Then, how does the site offer a voice to all if Trump and the site can not be criticized by its users?
Barely 2 hours after Trump announced his new social media platform, some Twitter users had already created mock accounts with the handles @donaldtrump and @mikepence.
Those accounts were banned the same day they were created, and the site was temporarily taken offline to make adjustments to its vulnerability.
