The European Union has suspended development funding to Afghanistan due to the seizure of power by the Taliban.

According to the EU’s Josep Borrell: “No payments are going on to Afghanistan right now. No payments of development assistance until we clarify the situation,”

The EU promised in November to donate $1.4 billion to Afghanistan over the next four years in long-term and emergency assistance.

The move to stop the development aid was first announced by Germany and Finland.

Additionally, the EU has said that it will only work with the Taliban if human rights are respected.

Frankly speaking, it seems the world has no other option than to accept Taliban as the legitimate Government in Afghanistan.
