According to the Japan Coast Guard, a 39,910-ton Panamanian-registered ship (Crimson Polaris) suddenly ran aground and split into two in Japan.

There were 21 crew members on board but all were safe and there was no report of injuries. It was further reported that the ship was carrying wood chips when the incident happened.
