In what has been described by the Nigerian President as an act of terrorism, local newspapers retorted that about 250 prisoners escaped after the prison was attacked by some unidentified gunmen.
There were 70 convicted inmates among the escapees. The police are finding it difficult to recapture the inmates who have gone into hiding.
However, according to the police, only 3 of the escaping prisoners have been rearrested so far.
Although, it is widely speculated that the Islamic group Boko Haram is behind the attack, it is still not clear who is responsible for the attack on the prison.

One policeman was reportedly killed during the prison raid while others sustained injuries.
Insecurities in Nigeria are on the rise and people are blaming it on the government who can not provide basic amenities such as constant water and electricity for the citizens.
