France has announced that their military has eliminated Adnan Abu Walid al-Sahrawi, the leader of the Islamic State branch in Africa.

France has declared the killing to be a major victory against jihadists in Africa.

al-Sahrawi was killed by a drone strike that hit him on a motorcycle last month in southern Mali.

The drone strike was carried out by a French-led operation involving backup from the U.S, EU, Nigeria, and Malian military forces.

The Islamic terrorist is said to have switched from Qaeda to ISIS in 2015, and he claimed responsibility for a 2017 attack in Niger that killed four U.S. service members and four Niger military personnel.
