The U.K is among some countries that unjustly included some African countries in their so-called Red List after it was wrongly reported that Omicron coronavirus originated from South Africa.
It was later discovered that Omicron coronavirus was in Europe before it spread to South Africa.
The U.K government has announced that in order to ease travelling during this festive period, all 11 African countries will be removed from the UK’s travel red list at 4 am on Wednesday, 15 December, 2021. However, many believe that the African countries were not supposed to be flagged and included in the red list at all..
The African countries on the list are Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
According to “Now that there is community transmission of Omicron in the UK and Omicron has spread so widely across the world, the travel red list is now less effective in slowing the incursion of Omicron from abroad.”
