While poverty is on the rise in Nigeria and many people are struggling to make ends meet, some embezzle public funds and live luxurious lives.
More young boys have now resorted to defrauding others in a scam scheme that is popularly known as “Yahoo Yahoo.”
The so-called fraudsters (Yahoo boys) lavish money anyhow in Nigeria. The tweet below shows a fraudster who has been identified as Tony Chidi Onwurolu throwing bundles of money at a pastor in a church.
Onwurolu is presently being sought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), a Nigerian law enforcement agency. Last year, HushPuppi, a Nigerian fraudster was arrested while he was living a luxurious life in Dubai, and he is presently serving a jail term in the U.S for defrauding companies and individuals.
$43.4m, £27,800, and N23.2m was recovered in a house in Nigeria
in 2021, armed with a search warrant from the court, EFCC members decided to force their way into the house. Bundles of money which comprises 3 different currencies were found in two of the four-bedroom apartment.
The money was subsequently moved to the central bank of Nigeria.
