A military coup has taken place in Sudan. The military has dissolved the civilian government, and some political leaders have been arrested.

According to the coup leader, Gen Abdel Fattah Burhan, the coup was necessary to prevent a civil war from taking place in the country.

Most of the politicians in the country have indulged themselves in a lot of political infighting.

This has led to loggerheads between the military and civilian leaders.

Three people are said to have died after being shot by the armed forces during the protests that have erupted in several cities including the capital Khartoum.

The protesters are demanding the return of civilian rule. Even some doctors have refused to work at hospitals and institutions under military rule.

Internet in the country has been shut down, and international flights have been suspended.

World leaders have unanimously condemned the coup. Africa Union (A.U) has suspended Sudan as a member of their organization until civilian is back in power.

The A.U and other world leaders have also called for strict respect of human rights in Sudan.
