About 70 years ago, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) was formed in a U.N meeting in Brussels, Belgium, and it ensures that the fundamental human rights of migrants are protected worldwide.
The organisation has named 18 December as a day that marks the solidarity with migrants across the globe.
World Health Organization also uses the day to highlight the health and well-being of refugees and migrants.
Based on the fact that there are lots of problems (conflicts, disasters, economic challenges, extreme poverty, etc) in most parts of the world, and these problems culminate hunger, disaster, lack of freedom, etc.
People are forced to flee their homes and countries to seek refuge in other places or other countries.
The UN has urged all its member states, governmental and non-governmental organisations to observe this day by disseminating information on human rights and fundamental freedom and protection of migrants.
