About a month ago, Russian communications watchdog Roskomnadzor demanded that Google and Apple remove Navalny’s app from their stores.

The Russian government has threatened to fine Apple and Google because the giant tech companies have refused to delete the jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny’s app from their stores.

Russia said that the move to allow people to continue to download the app could be considered as interference in the country’s parliamentary elections that are coming up soon.

Meanwhile, Russia has barred all the vocal Kremlin critics including Navalny’s allies from running in the forthcoming elections.

The opposition’s website navalny.com and all other sites relating to him have been blocked in the country.
