There is a dramatic increase in poverty in Afghanistan since the Taliban took over power. According to the World Bank, about 75 percent of public finances in Afghanistan were supplied by grants from the U.S. and other countries.
The government is also short of money due to the freezing of foreign aid by governments that don’t recognize the new Taliban regime.
Due to the severe lack of money and the dehumanization of women that ensued in Afghanistan after the Taliban seized power again, desperate Afghan parents have resorted to selling their kids into marriage to make ends meet.
In other words, in a very heartbroken situation, they have started selling their female kids (as young as seven) for marriage in exchange for cash to feed the rest of their family.
Some of the kids who are being sold for money are too young to understand what is going on. Female kids between the ages of 7 and 10 are sold for $2,000.
Murad Khan, the father of Benazir, an 8-year-old girl made headlines when he told reporters that he will receive $2,000 for Benazir, but he has not yet explained the details to her.
According to him, there was no point in explaining the details to her because she’s too young to understand what is going on.

Benazir’s father knew he was not doing the right thing, but he has no other choice. “We are 10 people in the family. I’m trying to keep 10 alive by sacrificing one,” he said.
Benazir is to be sold to a boy from a family in Iran. Nowadays in Afghanistan, children are often seen begging for money on the streets.
