After former President Donald Trump kept interrupting President Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential debate until Biden asked him to ‘shut up man,’ Republicans have decided that their presidential candidate should skip the traditional commission debates.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) has informed the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) that it plans to require Republican presidential nominees not to attend presidential debates.

In a letter, Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel wrote: “The RNC will initiate the process of amending the Rules of the Republican Party at our upcoming Winter Meeting to prohibit future Republican nominees from participating in CPD-sponsored debates.”

McDaniel claimed that the GOP voters “have lost trust” in the commission and noted that the RNC has proposed a number of reforms to the debate process.

The CPD that has hosted the debate for over 30 years, replied that “In furtherance of our position as a nonpartisan, neutral body, which neither favors nor disfavors any party or candidate, we do not negotiate the terms or conditions of our operations with anyone.”

The commission added that it “deals directly with candidates for president and vice president who qualify for participation.”

White House press secretary Jen Psaki believes that the Republican National Committee (RNC) is simply afraid of participating in presidential debates. When asked for President Biden’s response, Psaki said:

“The president has participated in many debates over the course of his career and believes they play a role in allowing the American people to hear from candidates and where they stand.”

Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison accused the RNC of deciding “they would rather hide their ideas and candidates from voters.”
