After 16 years in power, Angela Merkel has said that she will no longer contest for the post of German Chancellor.
Germans will vote to elect a new Chancellor on Sunday, 26 September, 2021.
The new candidates have clashed over taxation and minimum wage.
Under Chancellor Merkel, Germany is presently seeking support from other European Union members to ensure a second term for Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at the helm of the World Health Organisation.
Ghebreyesus is from Ethiopia in Africa, and he is the former Ethiopian health and foreign minister.
He was elected as WHO’s first African director-general in May 2017.
Meanwhile, no other member of the African Union is preparing an alternative candidate for the position of WHO’s director-general.
